Details

The KYVU W4 is our largest handmade coarse-tooth wooden comb, with generously wide-spaced teeth, crafted from sustainably sourced steam beech — a dense hardwood used in premium comb-making for generations.

Best for: thick, curly, wavy or textured hair · longer or fuller hair that needs a bigger comb · gentle detangling and distributing conditioner through wet curls · men & women · anyone switching from plastic to natural tools. Looking for a fine-tooth comb to style fine or straight hair? See the W6 Wooden Fine-Tooth Comb. Want one comb that does both detangling and styling? Try the W2 Wooden Dual-Tooth Comb.

The wide-spaced coarse teeth are built for thick, curly and textured hair — gliding through knots, coils and volume without dragging, snapping strands or disrupting the curl pattern. As the largest comb in the range at 17.8 cm, the W4 covers more hair per stroke, which makes it especially good for long or dense hair where a smaller comb means slow, fiddly work.

It also excels on wet hair: the wide spacing makes it ideal for gently working out tangles in the shower and distributing conditioner evenly through curls, with far less pulling and breakage than a fine comb.

Wood itself is the core feature here. Steam beech is naturally anti-static, so there's no friction, no frizz, no flyaways as you comb — a real advantage for curly and textured hair that's prone to frizz. Unlike plastic combs that charge your hair with every stroke, or cheaper bamboo combs that splinter and wear rough with use, kiln-treated beech is dimensionally stable, smooth under tension, and develops a subtle patina over years of daily use.

Each comb is individually hand-cut, hand-sanded, and hand-finished by skilled craftspeople. The tooth tips are rounded by hand rather than left as cut points, so the comb glides over the scalp gently rather than scratching it. There are no mould lines, no sharp edges, no injection-moulding artefacts — the defining difference between a handmade tool and a mass-produced one.

Suitable for dry, damp or wet hair. Wipe clean with a dry or lightly damp cloth after use — do not soak, do not leave in humid environments, keep away from direct heat. With proper care, your KYVU wooden comb will last for years.

Frequently asked questions

Is a wide-spaced wooden comb good for curly hair?
Yes. The W4's wide-spaced coarse teeth glide through curls, coils and thick hair without disrupting the curl pattern or snapping strands, which makes detangling gentler and helps preserve definition.

Does a wooden comb reduce static and frizz?
Yes. Steam beech is naturally anti-static, so it doesn't charge your hair as you comb — a real benefit for curly and textured hair prone to frizz, with far less friction and flyaway than a plastic comb.

What's the difference between a coarse-tooth and a fine-tooth wooden comb?
Coarse-tooth (the W4) is for detangling and working through thick, curly or textured hair. Fine-tooth (the W6) is for styling, parting and finishing fine, thin or straight hair. Choose coarse-tooth for detangling, fine-tooth for control and finishing.

Can I use this comb on wet hair?
Yes. The wide spacing makes it ideal for gently detangling wet or damp hair and distributing conditioner through curls in the shower, with less pulling and breakage. Wipe the comb dry afterwards rather than leaving it wet.

Prefer a fine-tooth wooden comb for fine or straight hair? See the W6 Wooden Fine-Tooth Comb. Prefer one comb for both detangling and styling? See the W2 Wooden Dual-Tooth Comb.

Materials + Care

Material:
Each comb is handcrafted from a single premium material, depending on its series. The T-Series and B-Series are made from premium cellulose acetate — a durable, plant-based material prized for its flexibility and smooth finish. The T-Series combines this with a classic tortoiseshell look, while the B-Series features a sleek black finish for a modern touch. The W-Series is made from steam beech wood with a natural, warm feel. The A-Series features combs handcrafted from 6163-grade aluminium alloy, offering a sleek look and solid feel. All materials are chosen for their quality, durability, and comfort in use.

Care:
Wipe gently with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid prolonged contact with water, direct heat, or harsh chemicals. For long-lasting use, store your comb in a dry place when not in use.
